It’s not easy to be this scary! We need a lot of hands to create and run our Austin
haunted house. On run nights, somewhere between sixty and a hundred actors, technicians and
managers work late into the night to provide an intense thrill to our visitors. But the need
for help starts way before that! Pre-SCARE planning, organization, and building require a wide
range of skills, from logistics to carpentry and electrical work to managing tools and supplies
to prop, costume and make-up design to gathering the multitude of miscellaneous stuff we need
to scare up some funds for our charities. And if you don't have time to volunteer during the
build or performance, we still need plenty of help to take it all apart and put it away for
another year and to keep our non-profit organization running.
Volunteers have plenty of opportunities to learn useful new skills, like body-part making
and wound creation, through periodic workshops conducted by Rogue Technologist Edwin Wise
and other experts. Experienced crew members are always on hand to provide ideas and tips on
writing, publicity/fundraising, carpentry, sound and lighting, and other more practical
matters. Volunteering for SCARE is a great way to give back to your community, meet people
and have some fun!
