What is SCARE for a CURE?
We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization of volunteers who raise money for cancer-related charities. Our primary fund raiser is an annual haunted house. SCARE consists of dedicated volunteers who have banded together from legendary Austin haunts Britannia Manor, Haunted Trails at Wild Basin and community members. Our founder, Jarrett Crippen, also is known as “The Defuser,” winner of the SciFi channel’s “Who Wants to be a Superhero?” reality show.
How can I find out more about SCARE for a CURE?
Explore this web site for more information, or email us at scareforacure@austin.rr.com.
How much do tickets cost?
Please check our tickets page for current ticket information.
All net proceeds go directly to our selected charity. Tickets will be available online—watch the tickets page for details.
Is this a charity? Who does SCARE benefit?
Each year, SCARE benefits a cancer-related charity. Please see our charities page for information about the current year’s charity partner(s).
What sets SCARE for a CURE apart from other haunted houses?
Imagine a theater performance that takes place across 26 stages in 3-minute acts and includes audience participation, built entirely by volunteers and benefitting cancer charities. Put it all together and you have more than a haunted house—you have a fear-filled adventure worthy of its Britannia Manor and Haunted Trails roots!
What is the theme of the haunt this year?
The Happy Time Carnival has come to town! Come see the clowns and meet the Ringmaster and make sure to avoid the haunts at The Carnival of Lost Souls.
Where do I park?
Parking is available at the site at 7400 Coldwater Canyon Dr. Someone will be available near the gate to direct you to a parking place and control traffic. A shuttle will transport groups from the parking lot to the haunt and back again.
What time should I arrive?
Please plan to arrive 15-30 minutes early so you’ll have time to park and sign in. However, parking is limited, so we’d appreciate it if guests did NOT arrive more than 30 minutes before their reservation time.
What should I wear to the haunt?
SCARE is an extreme haunted house, and participants can expect to walk, run, crawl, get dirty, etc. We suggest wearing comfortable clothes and shoes appropriate for these activities. Don’t wear your nice clothes to our haunt; we will not be kind to them, and even regular (non-Red) groups may brush up against something nasty by accident.
Can I bring my kids?
We admit children, but please be aware that we regularly have adults who elect to leave before completing the haunted house due to the intense nature of the experience. SCARE is an extreme haunted house, and is not suitable for most children under 12. Please use your best judgment with regard to your child’s ability to handle an extreme haunt. Remember, you can always ask to leave before you finish the haunt if the experience turns out to be too intense for your child (or anyone else in your party!).
Is SCARE dangerous?
Are you claustrophobic or afraid of the dark? Are you easily frightened? SCARE is an extreme haunted house, and participants can expect to walk, run, crawl, get dirty, etc. Emergency personnel will be available on the premises during run hours. You will be guided through the haunt, and your guide will assist you if you need help for any reason.
Will I be touched during the haunted house?
Guests may be touched. Actors… probably not.
I’m brave—give me all you’ve got!
Feeling brave? Consider purchasing Red-Level Tickets. This experience will be more extreme, more physically challenging, more intense, and much more fun for those who are ready for the extra challenge. But make sure you pick brave friends! Red status applies to your whole group, so unless everyone is up for the extreme version, you’ll want to stick with regular admission.
Get me out of here! What if I’m too scared to keep going?
SCARE is an extreme haunted house, and occasionally participants (of all ages) decide they’ve had enough! If at any point you are unable to continue for any reason, tell a crew member and you will be safely escorted to the gate immediately.
How can I remove “blood” and “slime” stains?
We WARNED you not to wear your good clothes! If you attend our haunt, especially as part of a Red Group, chances are you came out a tad less fresh than you went in. Here are some hints for getting clean again.
“Blood” stains can be removed from skin using makeup remover or olive oil. For clothing, we suggest washing as soon as possible in hot water.
“Slime” can be removed with a mild acid such as white vinegar.
